“Now, therefore, I, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, 01 September 2017, as a regular holiday throughout the country,” the document stated.
Malacañang released on Tuesday Proclamation 297 declaring Sept. 1, 2017 a regular holiday for the Muslim observance of Eid’l Adha, or the feast of sacrifice.
The proclamation, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte, is based on Republic Act 9849 that the yearly festival, whose date is movable, is celebrated as a regular holiday.
Tradition of Eid Al Adha
Eid al-Adha concludes the Pilgrimage to Mecca. Eid al-Adha lasts for three days and commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son.
