Common Seahorse “Kabayo-kabayohan” (Hippocampus kuda)
Range: Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans
Habitat: found in tropical and subtropical coastal reef waters
Maximum length: 22 cm
Diet: larval fish and crustaceans
Facts: Seahorses and pipefishes are notable for being the only animals in which males become “pregnant”> Seahorses feed by sucking up their prey with their small mounths. They have no stomach or teeth. These intriguing fish are threatened by overexploitation, accidental capture in fish nets, and degradation of their habitats.
